Geelong

geelong

The Geelong region is renowned for producing premium cool climate wines. In the picturesque Moorabool valley, we have 35 acres under vine, producing Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer.

Our vines at Geelong are some of the oldest and most significant in Victoria. This vineyard was the site of Geelong's winemaking resurgence in the 1960s as "Idyll" - the first vineyard to be planted since the decimation of Geelong's wine industry by the vine disease phylloxera in the late 19th century.

The landscape around here is peppered with alluvial basalt, above a free-draining, limestone foundation - perfect for grape growing. The basalt, or bluestone as it is most commonly described, provided the material for a massive, historical railway viaduct that spans our valley. Pushing 80 metres tall and almost surreal in appearance, this old bridge frames our vineyard on the valley floor with the surrounding hills.
